The following interview was done last summer in 2022; reworked for this blog.

Each question, was answered in a brief, “to the point paragraph”, seeing as the community and the company has grown quite a bit since 2021/2022; each topic touched on here will be entire subjects that will have deeper dives.

“Long Live the UNION”

Who are you and what is your company/project?

We are the Mad Banana Union and our goal is world domination, mwuahahaha

While we are a sold-out and OpenSea-verified NFT project, we were also essentially ‘rugged’ by the original founders. However, the community is full of NFT OGs who fell in love with the art during mint and still hold their MBUs to this day. It’s common to see holders flexing their Mad Bananas next to their Bored Apes on Twitter.

We are now a rebooted NFT project, still sold out and OpenSea verified, but charting a new course for the art, the community, and for the general Mad Banana Union brand.

What’s your backstory and how did you get the idea for the company/project?

The story of the Mad Banana Union is that of a community that came together to rebuild after the former founders left the project to die. After a VERY successful mint during the OG days of NFT mints (mid-2021), the founders went quiet for several months only to empty the wallets of ETH. Luckily a group of Mad Bananas managed to get access to the wallets, the creatives, the website, the Discord server, etc., and are now on a mission to make this the comeback story of ALL TIME. Yeah? Yeah.

What problem is your project trying to solve?

Many of us came to the NFT space seeking new freedoms and opportunities not offered by the financial regime the globe finds itself currently within, and we will be among the people who help build the new infrastructure for the next century.

At our core, we seek to bring awareness and participation to this new frontier of digital globalization. We will deliver Web3/Metaverse-related products and experiences to help educate people on the digital nomadic lifestyle while building a community of like-minded individuals. And we will do this with the spirit of the MBU persona: to laugh, to poke the status quo, to embrace one’s inner rebel.

The evolved plan with the “reboot” is to make the Mad Banana Union a brand that will live in both the physical and virtual world. Our aim is to become the outlaw brand of the NFT world and to join that in the physical world.

What makes your company/project unique?

Art. The Art is DOPE AF. Virtually everyone comes into the Mad Banana Union for that reason.

Eco-friendly charity and earth efforts to alternative energy, alternative business, and alternative ways of creating value.

Describe the process of relaunching the project.

The process of launching a project has a clear plan.

On the other hand, the process of relaunching and resurrecting a rugged project has no black and white clear cut path of action, as the landscape is much different.

Something that already exists has structures and systems that need to be broken down to their bare bones to build back on the proper foundations, as well as structures and systems that have yet to show themselves as being needed.

Since launch, how have you grown your company/project?

A roller coaster, and a true saga of Web3 NFT drama !!!

Decentralization of tasks, duties, distribution of assets, power, governance, truly amazing paradigm shifts in how companies, crypto, NFTs, and random friends on the internet can come together in a metaverse format and just WORK toward a common goal. Building a Web3 business from a rugged project is going to be an important example of the power behind the technology that is now in front of us all.

What are the biggest challenges you have faced while rebuilding your project?

As a project seeking to show others in this space that ‘community driven’ is an option (especially when the founders no longer believe in the project), we have many!

Rebuilding trust after a perceived NFT rug pull

Creating a brand after initial momentum was lost

Providing NFT holders with value IRL and Web3

Building revenue streams to boost project progress and productivity

Reconfiguring to a truly decentralized structure

Have you learned anything advantageous about the blockchain industry?

The nascence of the NFT is a gift and also a hurdle. To truly understand this material, it takes months of study and a specific internal drive to participate in the building of a new industry, which means solving problems that others do not even know exist yet. This can be super fun but also quite perplexing at times.

How are you doing & what does the future look like?

The Mad Banana Union is doing better than ever and our future is manifesting into more and more awesomeness as each day rolls by. We have a talented and experienced leadership team with many innovative ideas and a community that is ready to do some amazing things.

What have been the most helpful blockchain books, podcasts, or other resources?

Medium articles and Youtube videos with less than 5,000 likes that are educationally alpha in nature with no hype.

What is your advice for someone just starting out in the crypto and blockchain industry?

Remove your emotions from what you do and focus solely on building and providing value rather than flipping and FOMO. Much easier said than done seeing as these blows and punches can help you earn your stripes and navigate the space better in the long run. But controlling your own emotions and removing emotions from decision-making around money is the single most important skill to start building up with yourself.
